Nagar Palika Overview



A Nagar Palika or Municipal Council is a form of urban local government in India, established for towns with populations typically ranging from 20,000 to 1,000,000. It functions under the constitutional framework laid out in the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act, the Rajasthan Municipalities Act, 2009, and relevant administrative rules by the Department of Local Self Government.
The Dei Nagar Palika was officially notified on 19 April 2023 through Government Notification No. 693. It governs the entire geographical and revenue boundary of the erstwhile Gram Panchayat Dei, now recognized as an urban settlement.
Structure of the Nagar Palika
The Nagar Palika functions through an elected council supported by a government-appointed Executive Officer (EO). The EO is responsible for day-to-day administration, execution of development works, implementation of government schemes, and coordination with state departments.

Functions of Dei Nagar Palika
Under the Rajasthan Municipalities Act, 2009, Dei Nagar Palika is responsible for:

- Water Supply: Provision and maintenance of drinking water infrastructure
- Roads & Public Infrastructure: Construction and maintenance of roads, footpaths, and public buildings

- Public Welfare Services: Schemes for women, children, disabled, and senior citizens
- Education Support: Upkeep of municipal schools and anganwadi centers
